Precision Through Partnership: UV Cure Dispensing

Updated: Oct 9, 2025

Custom Dispensing System Developed in Partnership with Betz Machine

In harsh and variable environments, the durability of electrical components hinges on the quality of the materials used—and how precisely they’re applied. That’s why Betz Machine a long-standing integrator partner, came to GP Reeves to engineer a custom UV curing dispensing system for a specialized potting application used on truck and trailer connectors.

The Challenge: Precision Under Pressure

Betz Machine was tasked by an OEM to develop a fully automated process that could accurately dispense and cure a UV-sensitive potting compound for six-pocket terminal connectors. The system needed to manage the entire process: precision dispensing, UV curing, and validation testing. While Betz handled system design and controls, they turned to GP Reeves for a reliable dispensing solution that could meet tight performance and production specs.

The UV cure material required exact volumes, fast cycle times, and complete isolation from air to avoid premature curing. Betz trusted our ability to handle the complexities of UV curing dispensing—because we’d proven ourselves on past projects.

“We began integrating GP Reeves into our fully automated machinery with great success and exceptional customer service, which led us to continue partnering with them.”

The Solution: Engineered for Every Drop

GP Reeves supplied the complete dispensing system for the project, which included a RAM pump, six dispensers, and all necessary connections. We utilized a GSP 5-gallon pail unloader with a 5:1 boost ratio and an inductor designed for compatibility with a bladder bag, as the material required this specialized containment. It was critical to prevent the material from being exposed to open air prior to dispensing, as this would risk premature curing. For the dispensers, we implemented six Shear Sensitive RotoMeters—progressive cavity dispensers that precisely measured material while preventing unwanted curing. Our dispensing system was seamlessly integrated with Betz’s custom controls, which managed the speed and volume of the RotoMeter dispensing, as well as the curing and testing stations within the system.

GP Reeves supplied a fully integrated dispensing solution, including:

  • GSP 5-Gallon Pail Unloader with 5:1 boost ratio
  • Inductor for bladder bag compatibility, ensuring zero air exposure
  • Six Shear Sensitive RotoMeters—progressive cavity dispensers optimized to prevent UV material curing during metering
  • All pumps, hoses, and components engineered for full system compatibility

Our dispensers were seamlessly integrated into Betz’s custom automation, enabling accurate control of flow rate and volume during each step of the application.

Dispensing in Action: High-Speed, High-Precision

Ten stations formed the automation cell, with GP Reeves’ dispensers operating at two critical points:

  1. Station One: Four RotoMeters dispensed 0.28 cc and 0.37 cc of material across four pockets on the connector.
  2. Station Two: Two additional RotoMeters delivered 0.47 cc into the remaining pockets.

Each cycle completed in just 2–3 seconds, maintaining strict throughput requirements without compromising quality.

“GP Reeves was an excellent solution because they could finely control the volume being dispensed at each location.”

UV Curing Dispensing Integration

Following material application, the parts advanced through three UV curing stations. These were followed by:

  • Marking for traceability
  • Air pressure decay testing to validate volume accuracy and curing integrity
  • Automated rejection of any non-compliant parts

The system also featured part-in-place sensors and real-time performance tracking, minimizing material waste and supporting continuous improvement.

The Outcome: A Durable, Repeatable UV Cure System

Thanks to our collaborative engineering approach and material handling expertise, GP Reeves delivered a UV curing dispensing solution that exceeded the OEM’s requirements. The system ran smoothly, with precise volumetric control, reliable curing, and integrated quality checks.

Our partnership with Betz continues, with new systems already underway for additional UV cure dispensing applications.
